Gold like most things comes in various colors and purities. There are many different types of gold jewelry available on the market today. Gold ore is mined from many different locations around the world, but the standards for gold jewelry remain the same.

In gold jewelry, the gold's purity is determined by its karat weight. The term karat refers to a method of measuring, on a scale of 1 to 24, of how much pure gold and how much alloy is in each piece of gold jewelry. The lower the karat, the less pure gold is used and the higher the karat, the higher amount of pure gold was used in creating the piece.

You can see our outstanding selection of designer jewelry, coming in different gold karats. The different karats that are most commonly seen used for gold jewelry in the United States are 10karat, 14karat, and 18karat gold. Karat is typically shortened and will appear as 10K, 14K and 18K on your jewelry. These different levels are indicative of the content of pure gold that is contained in the jewelry.

The various colors of gold rings stem from mixing it with silver and copper to achieve different colors of gold such as a yellow, red, and even green! In yellow gold the copper and silver is mixed in equal parts.  When the copper is increased and the silver is decreased you have red gold, sometimes called rose gold.  For green gold the silver is increased and the copper is decreased.
