jewelers use to grade them.
About Diamonds
A diamond ranks as the hardest substance on earth. This is due to the fact that a diamond is extremely resistant to damage by high temperatures or scratching, and can be cut or polished only by another diamond. Despite years of constant wear, the diamond your diamond ring will keep their pointed corners and edges when most other stones will be damaged.
On the other hand, people expect a diamond to be unbreakable. A diamond can definitely be broken. A diamonds crystal structure has hard and soft directions. When a direct hit to one of these soft spots will crack, break or shatter a diamond.
Early History
Diamonds date back 3,000 years to India, where it is likely that diamonds were first valued for their ability to reflect light. Early on this jewel was used in two ways, firstly for ornate purposes, and secondly as an amulet to keep evil away.
The Middle Ages
In the Middle Ages, people began paying attention to the worth of diamonds, instead of the mystical powers surrounding them. Due to the enhanced public awareness of the value of diamonds, mine owners perpetuated myths that diamonds were poisonous. This was to keep the mineworkers from ingesting the diamonds in an effort to smuggle them out of the mines.
This lead to a surge in diamonds during the Middle Ages, with the detection of many big and well-known stones in India, such as the Koh-I-Noor and the Blue Hope. But when the Indian diamond supply declined, lesser finds cropped up in Borneo and Brazil, but these were not adequate to meet the ever-increasing need for diamonds. The discovery of diamonds near the Orange River in South Africa one hundred and sixty years ago ignited the worlds biggest diamond rush, and helped to satiate the world's increasing appetite for diamonds.
Recent Times
Just over thirty years ago on October 2nd 1979, geologists found the Argyle pipe near Lake Argyle: the richest diamond deposit in the universe. Since then, Argyle has turned into the world's prime volume maker of diamonds, and alone is accountable for producing over a third of the world's loose diamonds annually.
Diamond – The Symbol of Love
No matter if it is a loose diamond or diamond jewelry, diamonds represent ‘The Symbol of Love’ through out the world. The tradition of giving diamonds as portrayal of love and devotion began at the end of the 15th century when Austrian
Archduke Maximilian gave a diamond ring to his fiancé. They chose to put the ring on the fourth finger of the left hand because legend held that this finger provides a direct link between symbol of love and the heart.

For gold jewelry, the gold is mixed with silver and copper to achieve different colors of gold such as a yellow, red, and even green. In yellow gold the copper and silver is mixed in equal parts. When the copper is increased and the silver is decreased you have red gold, sometimes called rose gold. For green gold the silver is increased and the copper is decreased.
As most people do not know the ins and outs of designer jewelry classifications, it is important to be aware of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) standards placed on genuine gold content jewelry. It is regulated that the gold must be labeled indicative of its worth. The content, or karat weight, must be noticeably stamped on some portion of the gold jewelry. On rings, you'll typically find this mark inside of the band.
Platinum jewelry is a beautiful addition to any wardrobe for men and women, adults and children alike. Gold rings can bring out glowing skin tones and accentuate your clothing choices.
When buying fine jewelry, think about how you'll wear the piece. Items you'll wear everyday, such as wedding bands, should be made of the purest gold. For pieces that you'll wear forever, always choose the best quality gold jewelry that your budget will allow. With a little bit of care, your gold jewelry will last you a lifetime.

Searching for a loose diamond can be a daunting task. Our talented staff can help you through the process. They will teach you to have a basic understanding about diamonds. You should know the 4 Cs of a diamond—Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat.
Cut – The Cut of a loose diamond is the most important property to increase its beauty because a well-cut diamond reflects light to maximize the stone's brilliance. It is also the only added aspect to a diamond, since a diamond cutter must have a precise hand to give the diamond its perfect cut. A diamond with perfect color and clarity could nevertheless have poor brilliance if it is not well cut.
Color – The color of a loose diamond that most want is actually colorless. Diamonds do come in a variety of colors, but when someone discusses the color, they are referring to the color scale from colorless to brownish. Diamonds with colors like blue and pink are referred to as fancy diamonds.
Clarity - Clarity refers to the amount of impurities in or on certified diamonds. In other words, the clarity of a diamond refers to a diamond's clearness or purity.
Carat - The term "Carat" refers to the weight of a diamond and it is different than Karat which refers to metal. It is derived from the carob seeds, which are remarkably consistent in weight and shape, so they became the favored scale balances in ancient times. When we consider all four Cs, that determine value of diamond, we can find Carat weight most accurately and easily by using a delicately balanced scale capable of weighing extremely small stones.
